Moto E5 Plus can run Android 9 Pie update now, albeit unofficially

The Moto E5 Plus was announced back in May and ships with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. Since then the Android Pie update has been released and unfortunately, Motorola has revealed it’s not planning to update the phone to the latest version of Android. Or at least not initially.
While at this point it doesn’t appear the Moto E5 Plus will receive an official update, owners of this particular model who want to experience Pie on their device will still be able to do so.

You see, thanks to Google’s Project Treble, the developer community has already managed to offer up working Android Pie ROMs that use the power of Treble to bring the update to some unsupported devices.
Well the Moto E5 Plus was just added in GitHub today, which means it has been confirmed to be compatible with Android 9 Pie based on Treble ROM which is available in the project. This ROM provides users with a GSI system image file that you can install on your device so you can get Pie on it.
Obviously, other ROM options will become available soon. For example, just a few days ago the Moto G6 got an unofficial AOSP ROM based on Android 9 Pie, so the dev community is busy at work.
