Earlier this year, a good number of Huawei smartphones broke free from the company’s EMUI 8 skin in favor of AOSP ROMs based on LineageOS, OmniROM and Resurrection Remix and today, the team behind this entire exercise, OpenKirin, is rolling out a new update to the LineageOS version.
The LineageOS version is receiving its fifth beta since being launched and with it, as you’d expect from a custom ROM that is still fairly new, comes a bunch of new features alongside bug fixes and improvements to current features.

As per the changelog, LineageOS beta 5 brings fingerprint gesture customization, but note that this feature has been disabled by default on devices that come with front-mounted fingerprint scanners. You also get better support for H9 hardware keys and H8 smart key click, ambient display gestures, full hi3650 platform support that includes a fully-working camera for the Honor 8, Honor Note 8, Huawei P9/P9 Plus, and Mate 8.

The update also improves GPS, fixes DRM and Bluetooth issues, adds inbuilt support for tablets, the P20 Lite notch and burn-in protection for OLED panels, as well as the latest Android security patch for the month of August 2018. Of course, there are also plenty of under-the-hood improvements and optimizations accompanying the update.
